Skip the river and tie some flies!

The fishing is GREAT! That means everyone and their mother is out on the water this weekend.

I ran up to the Gunpowder solo yesterday (some of my friends are more responsible than me). It was frustratingly crowded - there were more fisherman than opening day in PA and enough canoes I thought I was on the Delaware! I had to drive around a bit (after hiking and not finding a spot to fish!) but found some deserted water down a back-road.

I was a victim of the white curse and there were olives EVERYWHERE. I caught nothing on olives; had one take but came up empty. I got out my seine and found nothing but caddis and a few stoneflies. I fished the riffles and under bushes with an Elk Hair Caddis and a BH caddis dropper switching to an emerging caddis pattern.

I brought along my close up gear and took some neat shots with the long lens. Most of them were really weird but a couple came out OK. It was fun when I nabbed a BWO in my hat:

I got a shot of this little guy zoomed right in there. I like that you can see his teeth. He'll do fine in the baitfish department someday.

If you're in DC/Baltimore, come by Backwater Angler and learn about tying deer-hair-bugs today from 1:00-3:00! I'll be there tying and spinning yarns and making up lies about giant fish.

Note: This sunfish is all business. He's been fished hard and repaired (see the tail) All that time at the vise isn't just for sticking it on the mantle!
Spread love and where your helmet. With the newbies on the water this time of year there's a lot of chuckin' & duckin' going on! Micah
